  The Net Commish

The role of a unit commissioner is a critical one. A unit commissioner is the link between the units and the district and council. A unit commissioner serves as an advisor, confidant and resource for the Unit leadership. A commissioner also communicates the needs and concerns of the unit back to the district and/or council. The commissioner's role is to help the unit be successful. The commissioner does not have to "Know all the answers", but he or she should know where to get the answers or at least who to contact to help figure them out. We are looking for several additional unit commissioners. There always are openings in every district. If your son has "aged out" or moved up or your have finished a time as a unit leader or if you are looking to make a more meaningful contribution, Unit Commissioner might be a good fit for you. If you have an interest in this role please contact Bruce Showstack, Council Commissioner, or your district commissioner.

A Message from the Council Commissioner

As we head into 2008 it is time for us all to evaluate if we are providing a quality program to the scouts we serve. If you are a professional, volunteer, or an involved parent, we all need to be aware of how our unit, district and council measure up, where are our strengths and weaknesses are, how can we improve our program and what are our goals for the New Year.

Did you achieve the status of Centennial Quality in 2007?

The Commissioner Service has the tools available and would like to show you how to use them, so if you missed out this year, you can attain this in 2008 or if you did achieve this status in 2007, we can help you maintain this status. We will work with your committee to complete the annual unit self evaluation and then sit down and help you set your goals on the 2008 Centennial Quality form. During the year the commissioner staff will review your progress and provide guidance to help you achieve your attainable goals.

If you are not aware of your Unit Commissioner please contact your District Commissioner or me and we will make sure someone from the commissioner service gets in touch with you.

Let us all set this goal to be a Centennial Quality Unit, District and Council in 2008.

Yours in Scouting,

Bruce Showstack
Council Commissioner
